Ron

I didn't go to Vietnam until 2007 so I'm pretty sure it wasn't me. The only American I met while hitching by air was a one armed guy (he lost it playing football) who was also hitching rides on planes. He was the only other foreigner that I met hitching rides on planes and we went out to near the Vietnam border to a town called Svay Rieng together.

I'm not sure but I think he told me he was working for the American government in Saigon at the time and he had come to Cambodia whilst on holidays.

Thanks for stopping by.

I spent 6 months in Cambodia and in that time I only took about 3 or 4 rolls of film, so that means I don't have that many photos to put up (I could just kick myself).

I will be doing a few more articles about my time in Cambodia but unfortunately there won't be any more shots of Cambodian air force related things.

Hi,

I like your web page about your trek through Cambodia. Could you post some more pictures? My uncle flew for the Khmer Air force and acouple of your pictures were taken at his base. I am trying to put together an album for him.

Thanks.

Australia back in the early 1970s was a fairly bleak place culturally speaking and I was very curious about the rest of the world.

When my mother remarried, a Canadian citizen (he was born in Germany) the family (except me)decided to emigrate to Canada. I didn't want to fly over all those countries on the way to Canada. I wanted to actually visit them.

At 17 I was the kind of kid that I'd probably want to punch in the head now days. You couldn't tell me anything and I was basically uncontrollable. I'm sure my step father was glad I didn't want to fly to Canada with them so he and my mum didn't make me go with them. So I worked for 6 months as a busboy to save $1000 and left Australia. I finally reached Canada 2 years later.

When I look at 17 year old boys now, they seem so young and clueless and I almost can't believe what I did at such a young age. I was lucky I wasn't killed on numerous occasions. As my blog name implies, it's all about "all the dumb things" that I've done in my life.

So in short, the answer to your question is that Cambodia was sort of on my way to Canada.

Great posts - I'm rather curious why a 17yr old is traveling in Cambodia in 74, but I suppose it was more interesting than high school.
