This is so cool. I’ll bet this bloke would make a great tourist attraction now. A random punk chick (also with a mohawk) tried chatting up my dad when we were in London in ‘88 - thought that was funny as heck.

Umm… this is kind of sad but the truth is Punk is dead, emo’s and goths killed it by infecting it. That’s why you don’t see any punk without make-up or flippy hair. Sorry, that’s the truth. No one is punk anymore because whenever you see someone who is punk, they’re mistaken for an emo and get the crap kicked out of them.

1982 was a huge time for punk actually. Theres a sub-genre of punk called “UK 82″ because there were so many bands out at the time. I just think its funny that you say it was dead when it was bigger than ever. Its only been getting better since then.

  13. razzbuffnik Says:

1982 was 7 years after I first saw anything punk (in Harajuku Japan). I was at the first big punk concert in Toronto in 1976, where I saw Teenage Head and the Viletones. By the time 1982 rolled around the original punks had either literally died or grown up and moved on.

Sure, there have been people who’ve donned the clothes and made similar music since but punk was more than just a fashion. In England it was a political and cultural reaction to the facist Thatcher government and the feeling of hopelessness combined with a sense of no future that so many young people felt at the time.

Sure, wear the clothes, listen to the music but please don’t tell me that punk isn’t well and truly dead now in 2007.

To tell the truth I’m kind of sick of seeing middle class kids with nothing more to worry about than what colour I-pod daddy will buy them, affecting a punk attitude today.

For goodness sake, don’t you think that it’s time for today’s youth to create their own culture instead of trying to fake a culture that is now over 30 years old.

Having said all this, there was some great music being produced in 1982. I still listen to Agent Orange every now and again.

razzbuffnik is definately correct. Punk is dead though the fashion and the insights that several punk bands brought upon us is still alive.

Yeah but the point isn’t about now… 1982 was the biggest resurgence of punk since it died down after the end of the 70’s. One could argue that it is dead now, but it wasn’t then and that’s the point.

But yeah kids today have most definitely made their own cultures in many ways, but I’m sure you don’t really like emo or any of these new cultures coming about, maybe some kids just see something great in punk that you can’t find in anything present-day.

Punk isn’t dead it’s changed and moved. Sure its been infected, but the punk movement is still out there. Not saying it hasn’t had its ups and downs just saying that just because it’s base isn’t in England’s sinking economy anymore doesn’t mean it died. If you moved from one city to the next your not ddead are you? Also some issues have changed and there are lots of sub branches, or poseurs but its not dead. Its still here.

  17. Lisa Says:

goths and emo’s did NOT infect the punk scene..ok…emo maybe… but the silly little 13 year old clad in black so called ‘goths’ that are running around are simply comfused metal heads…(they are the ones doing the infecting-thinking they know what anarchy is etc.)Real Gothic culture is entirely different..and very few understand what it is.
It most certainly isn’t ‘infectious’ although Gothic music has been described as ”punk’s sick little sister’ . However,Gothic culture is much more than just the music, many true goths do not even listen to Gothic music.-and believe it or not,Goths are not half as common as you’d think, the real ones anyhow.
Anyhow,I do agree that punk was great, and probably the best thing that ever happened..the anti authoritarian/individualist mindframe is something that should be employed by so many more individuals, sadly punk does seem to have taken the backseat ,but it is still there,thankfully..it just seems to have lost its voice

  18. aeraice Says:

“the sinking economy” if you ask me now is a good a time as any for punk to make a comeback or some sort of active movement. no one has the money for anything anymore, sales are at an all time low, people cant pay their gas or morgage, the streets are anarchy, you are more likely to get shot on your front doorstop than ever before and the government spends its efforts on cramping all sorts from other countries into an already crouded island and now they are starting on your personal choices, like no smoking in pubs, i dont smoke myself, but i wonder where all this will lead, when will they ban drinking, then partying before you know it life is gonna be, well pretty crap, thats if you can afford to keep yourself alive. i’d say a rebellion now would be more justifyed then in the 70s even, perhaps someone should start it.

  19. Xxmaggot69xX Says:

I’m not too fond of his tattoos, but I really like his choice of clothes.

  20. Hedgehog Says:

Who the hell spells punk with an ‘x’?

    You sad twats…

And for the record, punks making a comeback.

  21. Hashie Says:

sweet fucken uniform. way to look like a punk

  22. sexpistol Says:

Sitting around smoking with your friends, yelling anarchy at random people, mohawking or spiking your hair, patching and planting spikes on your jacket, and resisting arrest from 5o(cops).these people i just described are punk. Kids today still do that, they’re still punk. Punk lives.

  23. J Says:

punks would be cool if they didn’t think they were so tough. I kicked the shit out of a punk when I was 15.
