Good to hear from you again Joe.

Nearly everyone I know who has been to Texas has something to unflattering to say about the police there. It makes me wonder about what a distorted sense of freedom some people have if they think that by living in Texas they are living in a free country.

I will be writing about another episode I had with a Texas Ranger in Van Horn one of these days.

I was traveling Texas in the early 1980's on a 1.5 yr N America journey - also in my mispent youth, like Razz. As I was riding a motorcycle and sporting a ponytail and beard (back then the hair on top still sprouted), and having had my run-ins with the rural Texas officials a time or two, I can whole-heartedly belive both your and your friend's stories... A wonderful place to travel, but back then the badge was right up there with a commandment from God to keep their region of dominion safe from the likes of those us not from that area. Rural Lousianna, Alabama and Mississippi badges were also signs of immediate trouble back then, too.

"You should be writing a book."

Welll..... actually I am.

One of the ideas of this blog is get the basic stories (all true) down and then over time polish them up and put them together in a book. Sort of like putting up the framework of a house and then doing the little bits later. It's been interesting just writing things down as it brings back a flood of memories and details.

I've got lots of stories, particularly from when I was younger and totally out of control. I've done "all the dumb things". My wife has compiled three pages of just the titles of my various anecdotes (she's sick of hearing them).

I honestly wouldn't believe that story if it came from someone else. Just plain ridiculous. Wow. You should be writing a book.

that's crazy you found my blog and commented, because you just wrote about calgary, and i lived there for 11 years, starting, coincidentally, in 1978. and also your post is pretty insane, which is good.
